Taranaki residents who want to make their mark on Rugby World Cup 2011 have just a week left to enter the mural design competition.

The winner or winners of the competition, with the theme ‘Taranaki Welcomes the World for RWC2011’, will have their mural painted onto the wall alongside Real TART Gallery next to the Egmont Street Car Park, New Plymouth.

“We’re looking forward to seeing what local people come up with for this showpiece artwork, and with the deadline nearing they’ll need to get their entries to us in the next few days,” says Taranaki Arts Community Trust Chairman Simon Cayley.

“The mural will be unveiled on 11 September this year to celebrate Taranaki’s ‘One Year to go’ countdown until the first match is held at Stadium Taranaki. It will give the winning artist a big public profile.”

Entries close at 5pm on Friday next week (2 July).

Entry forms are available from New Plymouth District Council and Real TART Gallery, and online at newplymouthnz.com, taranaki.info and taranakiarts.co.nz.

The entries will be judged by artist Jill White, Govett-Brewster Art Gallery Director Rhana Devenport, Real TART Gallery Director Sarah Stevens and Venture Taranaki’s Vicki Fairley.
