Fatal Glenfield house fire

NORTH SHORE CITY

The NZ Fire Service responded to a house fire at 7.24pm on Saturday the 26 June 2010. The house was extensively damaged and the body of one person was located inside the fire.

A second person was located nearby suffering moderate burns and was transported to Middlemoore Hospital by St John Ambulance.

Police also attended at the scene and are currently conducting a forensic examination of the scene to establish the cause of the fire and investigate the death of the person whose body was located inside.

Detective Senior Sergeant Kim Libby of the North Shore CIB says,' at this stage we haven't confirmed the identity of the deceased person and are making all efforts to do so and locate any next of kin.'

' We are dealing with a fatal house fire where one person has died and the other person who we believe was present is currently receiving Hospital treatment for burns and cannot be spoken to by Police.'

'As with any death we must investigate the circumstances and identify possible cause of death.'

'We are not looking for anyone else with regards to this fire and are hoping to interview local residents who live nearby.'

Police will not be making any further comment about this incident today.
