At approximately 11.30pm on Saturday 26 June 2010 the proprietor of the Leithfield Hotel, Old Main North Road, Leithfield was confronted by a male with a firearm. The male was wearing a balaclava and dark clothing.

He tied up the proprietor with tape and demanded the keys to the safe.

An undisclosed sum of money was taken. Cans of Bourbon and Cola were also stolen. It is possible that one of the cans of spirits opened and spilt onto the money.

He then left the Hotel through an insecure window. It is unknown if a motor vehicle was then used by him.

Rangiora Police would like to speak to anybody with any information about this incident.
