Pedestrian dead - State Highway 3, Urenui, New Plymouth

Police inquiries are continuing into the death of a male pedestrian hit by a car on Mokau Road, State Highway 3, between Nikorima Street and Avenue Road just north of the township Urenui.

The man was struck by the car at about 11:30pm on Monday 28th June and sustained serious injuries, he was transported through to Taranaki Base Hospital, New Plymouth.

At approximately 3:30am this morning the male died as a result of the injuries that he had sustained.
He was walking down State Highway 3 when the vehicle hit him. It is unknown as to why the person was originally walking along the road.

The weather conditions at the time were poor with heavy rain and the area is very dark. The male was dressed in dark clothing at the time.

Later this morning the Police specialist units will go out to the area to conduct a scene examination.
The man's name has not yet been released until the next of kin have been notified.
