Police investigating the death of a man who stepped out in front of a car on SH1 south of Ngaruawahia on Wednesday night have absolved the driver of the car of any blame.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Whitehead of the Waikato CIB said investigators had spoken to a number of people who saw 20-year-old Hamilton man, Brendon Maurice WILSON, before he was struck by the car.

"During our investigation we were able to reconstruct Mr WILSON's activities during the day prior to the crash and have interviewed several people who assisted us with this.

"Police would still like to speak to anyone who had contact with Mr WILSON on Tuesday the 29 June or who saw a person on SH 1 near the Ngaruawahia Golf Course about 9 to 9-30pm that evening."

Mr Whitehead said a post mortem examination completed in Hamilton yesterday indicated Mr WILSON'S injuries are considered consistent with the known circumstances.

"The case has been referred to the Coroner who will determine on the cause of death.

"We are satisfied that given the actions of the deceased and the weather conditions at the time, no blame rests with the driver of the vehicle involved."
