Police investigate gang related shooting

The Gisborne and Wairoa Police are investigating a gang related shooting which occurred at approximately 10.20pm yesterday evening in Mclean Street Wairoa.

As a result of this shooting a 20 year old male received a non life threatening injury to his face from a small calibre firearm and is expected to be discharged from hospital today.

Six arrests not directly related to the shooting have been made and enquiries are continuing to establish the identity of persons involved in the incident.

The Gisborne Armed offenders Squad are assisting with the investigation and ensuring that the Police maintain control and defuse the situation.

The scene is currently being examined and witnesses to the incident are being sought.

The Police are appealing to any members of the community who have information relating to the incident to please contact the Wairoa Police. Similarly any information relating to gang activity or gatherings is also being sought.
