CHRISTCHURCH

At about 10.45 pm on Wednesday 7 July 2010, two men entered the Glenbyre Tavern located in Keighleys Road, Christchurch. One male was in possession of a firearm and the other in possession of a knife.

Present in the Tavern at the time were patrons and staff.

The men told the occupants of the Tavern to get down on the floor which they did. Staff were able to alert their security company.

In the meantime, the man with the knife was approached by one of the patrons and after an altercation he ran from the Tavern.

The man with the firearm attempted to get into the office at the Tavern. He was disturbed by other patrons and discharged the firearm at one of them - narrowly missing causing the patron serious injury.

The patrons wrestled the man to the ground where he was apprehended by Police a short time later.

The outstanding male is described as follows:

- Approximately 5' 5"
- Medium build
- Wearing a cap or balaclava
- Black top

Police would like to speak to anyone who has seen the male described above or who has any information in relation to this incident. If they have any information, they should contact the Christchurch Central CIB and speak to Detective Sergeant Leairne DOW.
