Skiing death at Mt Hutt

About 2.30pm on Monday, 12th July 2010, a female skier aged 54 years who resides in Christchurch was involved in a fatal accident at Mount Hutt ski field near Methven. There she fell approximately 300 - 400 metres down a valley. The alarm was raised by the victim's daughter who witnessed the fall. She was the sole family member skiing with the victim.

The victim was air-lifted to Christchurch Public Hospital where shortly before 5pm she died as a result of her injuries.

A name release is expected tomorrow morning once relatives have been informed.

The incident will be investigated by Ashburton District Police and other authorities.
