SH1, Rakaia - closed

Emergency Services have responded to a serious crash on State Highway One, Rakaia.

The scene is approximately half-way between Rakaia and Chertsey (to the south).

A number of persons have been injured, with one person in a critical condition.

Detours take southbound traffic onto Hatfield Overdale Road, onto Thompsons Track (for approx 7.5km), onto Wilkinsons Road, then back onto SH1. Northbound traffic uses the same roads (Wilkinsons, then Thompsons Track, then Hatfield Overdale).

Motorists in all areas are advised to please drive carefully as the roads may be in an icy condition. It appears ice has been a factor in this crash.
