Jetstar launches new direct flights to Australia from Queenstown.

Head to the Gold Coast or Melbourne with launch sale fares from $99NZD# one-way at Jetstar.com

Low fares leader Jetstar will expand by over 50 percent its value-for-money services from New Zealand’s iconic ski and adventure region with two times weekly services each from Melbourne and the Gold Coast to Queenstown starting from mid December.

The twice weekly Queenstown-Melbourne A320 service commences 16 December and Queenstown-Gold Coast flights, a new trans Tasman route, start from 17 December 2010, collectively providing greater and unique direct access from Queenstown to some of Australia’s most popular destinations.

Jetstar will also expand its Auckland-Queenstown services from daily to 11 times per week (from 16 December 2010), offering even greater opportunity to connect throughout Jetstar’s network in New Zealand to more Australian destinations and across the Asia Pacific region.

It today launched these trans Tasman routes offering one-way sale fares from Queenstown to Melbourne and the Gold Coast from $99# (JetSaver Light) at Jetstar.com. (#Terms and Conditions apply).

Jetstar’s every day one-way fares between Queenstown-Melbourne and Queenstown-Gold Coast from $199 (JetSaver Light**) are up to 30 percent lower than current competitors’ fares operating on same or similar routes.

Jetstar’s new low fare Queenstown flights represent an additional 72,000 yearly seats, a lift of more than 40 percent and aligned to Queenstown Airport becoming NZ’s fastest growing air gateway.

Jetstar Chief Executive Officer Bruce Buchanan, who visited Queenstown for the announcement, said Jetstar was delivering on its promise to deliver further growth and investment into the adventure destination, supported by an additional A320 for its New Zealand fleet that will grow to 7 in December.

“Jetstar is providing great stimulus to Queenstown tourism by offering flights at fares below those of our competitors, new routes and enhanced affordable air access for the region,” Mr Buchanan said.

“We have a vision for future growth in Queenstown backed by this announced large expansion in flying to and from the region prior to the end of this year. Positively, 30 percent more Aussie ski tourists visited Queenstown last year compared to 2008, according to NZSki.

“We will become the only airline to fly these announced international services annually from Queenstown, which includes to the Gold Coast, Australia’s most popular holiday location.”

Jetstar continues to invest in its operations into Queenstown and recently introduced the latest in Required Navigation Performance (RNP) technology that will reduce flight diversions in poor weather and low visibility conditions and allow for new, improved flight paths.”
