A man has appeared in the Wellington District Court this morning, in connection with a drug investigation.

The 32 year old was arrested in inner city Wellington yesterday afternoon. He appeared in Court this morning charged with possession of a restricted weapon.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Hampton says as part of this investigation, a search warrant was executed at an address in Waikanae. Police have been conducting a scene examination at the property.

"This operation is part of the Police commitment to combat the methamphetamine epidemic in New Zealand, with an emphasis on reducing harm to the community."

DSS Hampton says armed staff were used to assist in the arrest and the execution of the seach warrant, which is often the case when it is believed the public or Police staff may be at risk during such operations.
