At about 4.45 am on Saturday the 1st September 2007 the Police communications centre was contacted about an alleged rape that had just occurred at the Wanaka Lake View Holiday Park situated in Brownston Street Wanaka.

Police have subsequently interviewed the 19 year old complainant and a 23 year old man who she identified as being her assailant.

Both are from the North Island and were short term visitors to Wanaka.

They were not known to each other prior to their arrival in Wanaka a week ago.

The scene was one of the dormitory accommodation blocks at the camp and an examination has been carried out by a Police Scene of Crime Officer.

Over the next few weeks Police will be locating and interviewing a number of people who were in the camp at the time.

No arrests have been made and (apart from witnesses) Police are not currently looking for any other person in relation to the actual rape allegation.

The officer in charge of the Investigation Detective Dave Evans of the Wanaka CIB is keen to hear from anyone who has any information regarding the incident
