Busy Saturday night in Wellington city results in assaults
Wellington Police are investigating a number of assaults, following a busy Saturday night.
Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Miller says investigations are underway into three separate assaults in the central city, the first around 11 o'clock.
A 23 year-old New Plymouth man in Wellington for the All Blacks game was walking near the corner of Webb and Thompson Streets when he was assaulted by one young man. He had his wallet and cell phone taken in the attack, which was witnessed by two of the offender's friends. The victim received minor facial injuries.
The offender was described as a 15 to 17 year-old male wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt.
DSS Miller says in a second incident, just after 1am, two carloads of people had an altercation on the forecourt of the BP on Taranaki Street, where it's believed weapons, including baseball bats, were presented.
"One of these vehicles has then left the BP and driven the wrong way down Wakefield Street, followed by a concerned member of the public."
Scott Miller says a person in the vehicle has then got out of the car and hit the 28 year-old victim with a weapon.
The third serious incident occurred at about 4:15am, when a man was walking down Dixon Street, near Te Aro Park. A group of three young men have attacked him, kicking and punching him while he was on the ground. His wallet was stolen in the attack.
The victim was taken to Wellington Hospital by ambulance and has since been discharged after receiving treatment for a cut to the head.
The offenders in this incident were described as European, in their late teens of thin, athletic build, wearing dark coloured hooded sweatshirts.
DSS Miller says Police are urging any witnesses who saw any of these three attacks in the city to phone Police immediately.
"We'll be speaking to two of the victims today and continuing our enquiries but I urge anyone who was in the city on Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday morning and saw any of these attacks to come forward."
