The Mitre 10 Mega Petone Polar Plunge is back as part of the exciting Petone Winter Carnival. Mayor David Ogden will join other plucky participants as they don colourful costumes and head into the icy waters of Petone Beach on Saturday 14 August.

Mayor Ogden is hoping for a record turnout.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun and with proceeds from the event going to Wesleyhaven Village in Naenae it would be great to see big crowds.

“Wesleyhaven offers superb care for our elderly residents and I’m looking forward to showing my support for such a fantastic facility,” he says.

Everyone who takes part in the Mitre 10 Mega Petone Polar Plunge is asked to donate a gold coin which Wesleyhaven will put towards a new heat-pump and the makeover of their recreation hall.

Wesleyhaven manager Karen Rhind is grateful for the support.

“Every bit counts and the donations received from events like this really do make a difference for our residents and the wider community,” she says.

The Polar Plunge starts at 3pm with registration on the day from 2pm.

Popular morning hosts Dave and Camille from Classic Hits 90 FM will MC the event and Mitre 10 Mega Petone are again showing their support with prizes for the best dressed group, adult and child.
