As of 1 September 2007, Telecom began reducing the cost of calling from Telecom landlines to mobile phones, known as fixed to mobile calling, by an average three cents per minute.
The new rates which will apply to Telecom’s published rate plans are the result of the Government reaching separate agreements with Telecom and Vodafone to reduce the cost of mobile termination rates.
This is the first phase of reductions. Telecom has agreed to reduce its mobile termination rate from 20 cents per minute (cpm) to 12 cpm over the next five years.
The cost of fixed-to-mobile calling varies according to each customer’s plan and customers can check their plan on the Telecom website at www.telecom.co.nz or contact their account manager for more information.
Mobile termination rates are the fee charged by telecommunications providers for other carriers to end calls on their network.
