Local elections are coming and everyone should get involved!

Anyone who wants to make a difference in the local community is encouraged to stand. Or, if you know of someone in the community who you think would make a great Councillor - suggest it to them.

Anyone over the age of 18 can stand as long as they are a New Zealand citizen and enrolled on the electoral roll. Both the electoral roll and nominations for candidates wishing to stand for Council open tomorrow Friday 23 July and close on Friday 20 August.

A list of candidates will be published on 25 August 2010 and voting papers will be posted out to all electors between 17 and 22 September. Polling Day is Saturday 9 October 2010.

Want to know more about standing for Council?

A candidate workshop to help you find out what you need to know will be held 6-8pm on Tuesday 3 August 2010 in the Nelson City Council Chamber, Civic House, Trafalgar Street, Nelson.

Candidate information packs are available from Council, Phone 546 0200 to request one, or the information is available on line at www.nelsoncitycouncil.co.nz (search phrase - election 2010)
