To Whom It May Concern:

I am the co-convenor of the Australasian network of students with disabilities. This is a non-profitable student organisation that advocates and promotes matters related to people with disabilities in tertiary education.

The organisation was formed at the Pathways Conference in Canberra in early December 2000.

ANSWD advocates, promotes and campaigns on disability issues in the tertiary education sector both in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. ANSWD aims to promote an equitable learning environment for all tertiary students with disabilities/chronic medical conditions.

Tertiary students with disabilities/chronic medical conditions comprise the majority of our members. ANSWD negotiates with universities, Polytechs, tafes , colleges and other tertiary education institutions throughout Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand; it seeks to address and provide for the needs of students with disabilities/chronic medical conditions by advocating for a more equitable learning environment.

ANSWD also endeavours to assist students transitioning from high school to universities , Polytechs, tafes, colleges etc and also from tertiary education to work.

ANSWD has a discussion list which is open for all students with disabilities/chronic medical conditions to join as well as having social interactive skype meetings where you can meet other members, discuss issues and have fun.

We also have a committee which includes students with disabilities/chronic medical conditions who like to take on various roles and advocate at a higher level for students with disabilities/chronic medical conditions. The committee also organises events and campaigns revelant to students with disabilities/chronic medical conditions.

ANSWD urges any student with disability representative on their student representative council or student guild to get involved with the organisation.

ANSWD is on facebook, twitter and also has a blog which is currently being updated.

The website is also undergoing redevelopment however it is still viewable at www.answd.org

If you would like to join the organisation as a SWD or would like to know more please feel free to email : convenor@answd.org or visit www.answd.org
