The Mamaku man who Police were searching for in the village yesterday, is now in Police custody after coming forward to the Tokoroa Police station this morning. He was accompanied by a member of his family.

Rotorua Police Area Tactical Manager, Acting Inspector Brent Crowe, says Police are currently speaking with the 35 year old man, and it is likely that charges will be laid.

"We commend the man for coming forward this morning and would like to thank members of his family who have been instrumental in achieving a safe outcome for everyone involved, especially for him.

"We would also like to thank members of the Mamaku community for their patience and support yesterday, while the Police search operation was underway."

Yesterday's search began following contact from a family member who had concerns for the man's wellbeing. Police believed the man was also armed, prompting a cordon around Mamaku while an intensive search was undertaken. The search was scaled back last night.
