PORIRUA

Porirua Police are seeking witnesses to a hit and run early last night on Mungavin Avenue.

Detective Constable Sarah Waugh says an 18 year-old Porirua man was crossing the pedestrian crossing, near the intersection of Mungavin Ave and McKillop Street, when he was struck by a vehicle travelling towards the Porirua city centre, at about 5:20pm.

"The victim is currently in Wellington Hospital with multiple compound fractures and lacerations to his legs.

"We believe a blue Toyota Rav 4 vehicle has hit the victim. This vehicle was seen a short time later on Lyttleton Avenue near McDonalds in Porirua."

Detective Constable Sarah Waugh is urging anyone who may have witnessed the hit and run to come forward.

"If anyone has seen a person or people walking away from a blue Toyota Rav 4 near McDonalds on Lyttleton Ave sometime after 5:20pm last night, we'd also like to hear from them."

Anyone with information should phone Porirua Police on (04) 238 1400 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
