Wellington CIB is investigating an incident in Miramar on Friday night where a young man in his vehicle had a gun pointed at him.

Detective Sergeant Martin Todd says at about 10.15pm on Friday 16th August 2010, the 17 year-old victim was in his car in the vicinity of 29 Chelsea Street, Miramar, when another vehicle parked alongside him.

"The front passenger pointed a firearm at the victim and demanded his car. A verbal exchange resulted before the victim accelerated his vehicle at speed from the gunman.

Detective Sergeant Todd says the victim was not injured but was shaken as a result of the attack.

"This is a particularly frightening attack, especially when a firearm is involved. We hope that the public can assist in identifying the person or people involved. These types of offences are rare and isolated."

The offender is described as a Polynesian male, aged in his mid 20s, around 170 centimetres tall, with long straightened hair and a thin line of facial hair under his bottom lip down to his chin. He was wearing a dark coloured hooded sweatshirt with lighter vertical stripes on it and a beanie.

The offender's vehicle is described as a lowered white coloured four door sedan, possibly a Subaru, with tinted windows and a blow off valve.

Detective Sergeant Todd says, "Police are appealing for any witnesses to the attack or any suspicious activity around the time of the incident.
