Christchurch Police are concerned about the increase in thefts from vehicles in the Christchurch City and surrounding area.

Acting Sergeant Steve Sibley states that there has been a sharp increase in the number of vehicles being broken into at night over the last few days. Many of these vehicles broken into were parked on the street and the items stolen were left in plain sight.

The offenders would appear to be opportunistic in committing these thefts as they have targeted vehicles that had valuable and desirable items visible.

Acting Sergeant Sibley stated that vehicle owners need to take responsibility for their property and ensure that vehicles are left empty of any temptation for the would be thief. Items of value need to be placed out of sight or removed from the vehicle. If it is of value to you then it is of value to someone who wants to steal it.

For further crime prevention advice contact your local Police Station, Community Constable or Acting Sergeant Sibley from the Christchurch Central Police Station on 3637400.
