Nomination forms are now available for this year’s Unitec Waitakere Sporting Excellence ‘Koru’ Awards, so it is time for clubs, schools and sports organisations to put forward their best representatives.

The Awards night, which will be held on Thursday 18 November at The Trusts Stadium, is the premier event on the Waitakere sporting calendar. It provides the opportunity to recognise our top sports people and acknowledge those who provide outstanding service to sport. The awards are known as the ‘Koru Awards’, signifying growth and excellence. Keep an eye out for our new brand in newspaper and billboard advertising!

Unitec are back on board as the naming rights sponsor, and the category winners will be battling it out for the Unitec Supreme Award on the night. There are 13 categories; these are: Sportsman, Sportswoman, Junior Sportsman, Junior Sportswoman, Masters Sportsperson, Maori Achievement, Pacific Island Achievement, Team, Coach, Administrator, Club, Referee/Umpire, and Volunteer.

In addition the Sporting Acknowledgement Awards provide the opportunity for sporting codes to recognise either a club administrator, volunteer or sportsperson.

This year’s judges will be: Louis Rattray (Waitakere City Council), Turei Mackey (Sports Reporter, Western Leader), Simon Wickham (New Zealand Olympic Committee), Yvonne Willering (High Performance Netball Coach), and Fay Freeman (Community Specialist).

Nomination forms are now available at www.sportwaitakere.co.nz or 09 966 3120. Nominations close Friday 2 October, so get working on those nominations to ensure that your athletes and volunteers do not miss out!

Sport Waitakere Chief Executive, Lynette Adams, said: “these awards are an excellent way to recognise and celebrate all the amazing contributors to sport in Waitakere. I encourage all those involved in sport to nominate our local athletes, coaches and administrators so we can give them the recognition they deserve”.
