Over 220 restaurants around New Zealand are offering a discount for diners in support of Gamblefree Day on Wednesday 1 September.
John Wong, National Director of Asian Family Services at the Problem Gambling Foundation, says the dining discount campaign has been held on Gamblefree Day every year since 2007.
“This year we have a record number of restaurants supporting this campaign and a dedicated team of volunteers that have helped us with the planning,” he says.
“This campaign is about encouraging families to enjoy healthy entertainment rather than spending money on gambling and it helps to reduce some of the stigma and shame associated with problem gambling.”
“It also fosters open discussion among the community about Gamblefree Day and problem gambling issues,” John Wong says.
On 1 September participating restaurants in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Palmerston North are offering 10% discount off meals on presentation of the special Gamblefree Day Dining Discount voucher.
The discount voucher and a list of restaurants can be found on the Problem Gambling Foundation website www.pgfnz.org.nz/gamblefreeday
