Police searched a gang address in Nelson last night

Shortly before midnight teams of Police raided the Red Devils gang address at 14 Natalie Street with a search warrant issued under the Sale of Liquor Act.

Police arrested eight occupants at the address. Five people have been charged with allowing unlicensed premises to be used for sale of liquor, one woman has been charged with obstructing police and another two people have been charged with possession of methamphetamine.

Another 45 people are likely to face charges of being found on unlicensed premises kept as a place of resort for consumption of liquor.

Police have also seized a large amount of alcohol, substances believed to illicit drugs, a cash till, two refrigerators, five laptop computers, assorted documents as well as over $7000 in cash.

Team Policing Units from Christchurch and the Armed Offenders Squad were called into assist local officers with the search because it was a gang location and the number of occupants at the address. Police were also aware that one of the occupants at the address was arrested recently for alleged importation of a restricted weapon.

The Red Devils are regarded as a puppet gang of the Hells Angels. Members of the Hells Angels and Headhunters gang were located at the address.
