Earthquake in Canterbury

At about 4.35am this morning an earthquake struck in the Canterbury area.

It was reported as being centred 30 km west of Christchurch and at a depth of 33km.

It had a magnitude of 7.4.

There are reports of structural damage in Christchurch and some mino injuries have been reported to ambulance.

It is recommended that people take care if they have to travel as there has been damage to some roads.
