Rodney CIB is investigating an incident in Kumeu early yesterday morning when a man attempted to kidnap an eight year old girl while she was walking to school.

Police say the incident happened at about 7.50am Monday 6 September 2010. The girl accompanied by her two siblings was walking to a nearby school from Farrand Road, Kumeu.

The victim’s brother and sister began to walk ahead of her and eventually there was quite a distance between them, leaving the young girl to walk on her own. When the victim approached Boord Crescent, Kumeu, a black saloon car has suddenly pulled up alongside her.

A male occupant has got out of the vehicle and grabbed the girl’s left arm and demanded she get into the car. When the young girl declined the male offender has slapped the victim to the top of her head before getting back into the car and driving from the scene. Police have released a description of the alleged offender and the car.

Male – age unknown
Brown skinned - wearing black hoodie
Sole occupant of a Black four door saloon car
Registration of vehicle not known
A dog was in the back seat.

The young girl is extremely shaken and upset by her experience. She is receiving counselling and all available assistance from Victim Support and other agencies. Police are seriously concerned about the nature of this reported attack. Every available resource is being used to identify and locate this man before he tries to abduct or kidnap other girls of a similar age.

Anyone with information about the attempted kidnapping of the eight year old girl is urged to call Kumeu police on 09 412 7756 or Rodney CIB on 09 426 4555. Crime Stoppers is an alternative anonymous option on 0800 555 111.
