Wairarapa Police investigating spate of rural burglaries
Wairarapa Police are warning residents to be vigilant after a spate of rural burglaries.
Detective Sergeant Rick Joblin of Wairarapa Police says over the past five or so weeks, Police have noticed quite an increase in rural burglaries.
"Wairarapa Police are doing all we can to investigate these burglaries but we do require help from the community. If you see people or vehicles acting suspiciously, note down the registration number and any other details and call Police or Crimestoppers."
He says while these burglaries are occurring over a range of days, the majority are during daylight hours. Fuel, televisions, motorbikes and alcohol have been targeted as well as cash.
Detective Sergeant Joblin says it's a timely reminder for the Wairarapa community to become safety conscious.
"When you're heading off to work, make sure all your windows are secured and your doors are always locked. If you're heading away for the weekend or on holiday, ask a neighbour to clear your letterbox and keep an eye on your property."
He says establishing a Neighbourhood Support group is also another way to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.
