Police and Fire Service investigate Tauranga CBD incident

Tauranga Police have confirmed that they are investigating an incident which has damaged a toilet cubicle attached to a retail building in the Tauranga Central Business District.

The Western Bay of Plenty Acting Area Commander, Inspector Karl Wright-St Clair, says a small cordon is in place at the rear of the building in Devonport Rd, and members of Police and Fire Service are in attendance.

"At this stage, we believe a homemade, basic incendiary device has exploded and caused damage to the toilet cubicle.

"It does not appear that anyone was injured in the incident.

"We are currently examining the scene, along with members of the Fire Service."
