Death - State Highway One - Seadown

At approximately 7.25 p.m. on Tuesday the 21st of September 2010, a 21 year old Timaru male was in the middle of the road on State Highway One between Divans Road and Kennel Road, Seadown.

He was walking near the centre line in a southerly direction.

A north bound vehicle took evasive action and managed to successfully avoid him.

As the driver notified Police on her cellphone the male was struck by a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction (southbound).

The male was struck by this vehicle and the vehicle following immediately behind it.

The male died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor with the male and the dark clothing he was wearing at the time is also a factor in an unlit portion of the State Highway.

Police are seeking any witnesses who may have seen two males walking south between Temuka and Washdyke on State Highway One prior to the collision at 7.25 p.m., or any other persons who may have information in regards to this fatality.
