Coromandel winds expected to ease from this afternoon
Last night's Severe Weather watch announced by the Met Service was upgraded to a warning overnight, but winds are expected to gradually ease from this afternoon.
Some parts of the Coromandel experienced severe wind gusts overnight with damage to trees and insecure structures. Driving was also hazardous in some places, especially for high sided vehicles and motorcycles.
Westerly gales are still expected in some places this morning, with possible severe gale gusts of 120 km/h until about midday, especially with squally showers and any thunderstorms.
Most of the Peninsula's weekend power outages have been repaired and the risk of more power outages has eased ahead of a reasonable forecast for the weekend.
