Fatal microlight crash at Tauranga Airport

Western Bay of Plenty Police have confirmed that a 56 year old man died at the scene of a microlight crash at Tauranga Airport this morning.

Acting Area Commander, Inspector Karl Wright-St Clair says the microlight crashed on a grass strip between two runways at the Airport.

He says Tauranga Airport is still open and operational. Emergency services are in attendance at the scene.

He says the Civil Aviation Authority has been notified and will investigate the circumstances of the crash.

There is no further information available at this stage. Police are unable to comment about the details of the crash as it will be investigated by the Civil Aviation Authority.
