ASB is throwing its support behind Starship’s Spring Clean. With the decade-long Ira Goldstein ad campaign drawing to a close, they’ve given Goldstein Manor a cleanout and are now putting up for sale several of Goldstein’s most famous props.

Starship Spring Clean is encouraging Kiwis to search out and sell their unwanted goods on Trade Me at www.trademe.co.nz/starship, pledging all or part of the sale proceeds to Starship. All proceeds from the Goldstein items will go towards ASB’s funding of a new family area at the Neurological and Medical Specialty Wards which span the whole of Level 6 at Starship Children’s Hospital.

Starship Spring Clean will help with the major rebuild of Level 6 at Starship. This rebuild will help improve emotional, social and survival outcomes for critically-ill and long-term patients on these wards. Conditions treated include neurological disorders, brain tumours, metabolic and genetic disorders (including Cystic Fibrosis), head trauma and suspected child abuse injuries, respiratory illnesses and infectious diseases.

“The ASB Goldstein campaign has attracted a nationwide following and we hope that will spark great support for the children at Starship,” says Starship Foundation CEO Andrew Young.

“Our relationship with ASB dates back to 1991, with the partnership securing significant funding for Starship - including a Term Deposit campaign that raised funds for two new incubators earlier this year.”

ASB General Manager Brand and Marketing, Deborah Simpson says the auction is a great way to close the final chapter of the decade-long Goldstein campaign, which ends this week.

“We’ve been through our archives of props used in the Goldstein ads over the years, and we’re calling on his fans to bid for them in the name of supporting a great charity – while keeping a tangible memento of his iconic character,” she says.

Items for sale include: Goldstein’s briefcase, farmer’s hat, bowling shirt and ball, glasses, golf outfit, fishing outfit and World’s Fastest Motorbike goggles. Goldstein’s boss’s cowboy outfit is also up for sale.

A full list is available at http://www.trademe.co.nz/Members/Listings.aspx?member=3545731. The Goldstein props will be on Trade Me from today, with auctions closing on Friday 1 October.

Anyone who sells an item through Starship Spring Clean on Trade Me and donates the proceeds to Starship will be refunded the auction success fees by Trade Me.

Each year, more than 2000 young patients are admitted to Level 6. More than 100 of those patients stay for six months or more receiving treatment and medical expertise not available in any other centre in New Zealand.

Starship is a vital local, regional and national children’s hospital with more than 75% of children treated on Level 6 coming from outside the Auckland City boundary.
