Attempted Child Abduction in Christchurch Sat 25 Sept 2010
Christchurch South Police are investigating an attempted child abduction in Centaurus Road, St Martins at 9am on Saturday (25th September 2010).
An unknown male parked his red car near Hillsborough Terrace on Centaurus Raod, got out and approached a 10 year-old girl as she walked along the footpath.
He opened the front passenger's door and invited the girl to get into the car.
He held her by the shoulder and attempted to pull her towards him.
She broke away and ran to her home nearby.
The offender is described as 20 to 30 years old, slim build and about 5'7". He had short dark hair and was wearing dark coloured clothing, sneakers and grey and black speckled gloves.
The girl told police that she had first noticed the offender's shinny red car as it drove past heading towards Lyttelton and that it did a 'U turn', returned and parked on the side of the road near her.
She believes that the car had black tinted windows.
Police are endeavouring to identify the offender and are seeking information from the public.
This is a blatant attempt to lure a young child into a car on a busy road at a time of the day when there were a lot of people about.
Centaurus Road is a popular route for runners and cyclists.
Anyone who thinks they may be able to assist is asked to phone
