QUEENSTOWN

Queenstown’s largest hotel celebrated the success of their employees at the New Zealand Hotel Council graduation ceremony this month with six staff members proudly accepting their National Diploma in Hospitality (Operations Management).

Lauren Sall (Front Office Manager), Sally Carr (Executive Housekeeper), Emma Munro (Executive Housekeeper), Michelle Caron (Restaurant and Bar Manager), Julianne Frith (Assistant Manager) and Shi Yuan Chong (Receptionist) have undergone an on the job 12 month Diploma traineeship that has extended their skills and furthered their knowledge about all aspects of managing a hospitality operation - everything from recruitment, budgeting and cost control, to planning and controlling management systems.

Novotel Queenstown Lakeside is part of the Accor hotel network of more than 4000 hotels globally and has a focus of encouraging employee professional development and promoting the acquisition and development of skills to improve guest experience. Human Resources Manager Catherine Monaghan states that “Accor’s dedication to their employees through offering extensive training and learning opportunities has seen Accor New Zealand, in conjunction with the New Zealand Hotel Council develop a unique opportunity for Accor employees to gain a National Diploma in hospitality while you work for Accor.”

Jim Moore, Novotel Queenstown Lakeside General Manager, said he was delighted to have six of his team graduate.

“It’s great that we can offer these opportunities to our staff members and we have seen them thrive while doing this diploma.” he said.

“We’re looking forward to seeing the graduates take what they have learnt doing their diploma traineeship and apply this knowledge to their roles at the hotel.”
