Police estimate it will take another 45 minutes to clear the scene of the earlier reported crash at the Te Atatu interchange on the NW Motorway.

It is confirmed that the crash is now being investigated as fatal, the male driver of the light truck involved having died.

Auckland Motorways Senior Sergeant Stewart Kahn says that the early indications are that the city bound truck has driven off the motorway and crashed through a concrete barrier before striking another vehicle on the on ramp and coming to rest. The driver of the second vehicle was not seriously injured. At this stage police are looking at the possibility of some form of medical crisis as a contributing factor in the crash.

Any further releases will be made via the serious crash office at the harbour bridge.

One of the city bound on ramps has been closed and traffic is being diverted onto the other. This is already causing delays and motorists are advised to use alternative routes to gain access to the motorway where possible.

The crash was reported at 7.40am. and involves a light truck which may take some time to clear. One person is reported to have received serious injuries.
