Students encouraged to illustrate their vision for the future of Tauranga
With the completion of Bayfair Shopping Centre’s $15 million refurbishment project soon to be unveiled, the centre is celebrating the occasion by burying a time capsule. The burial is intended to mark a significant milestone in the history of the centre and give future generations a chance to glance back at local history.
To recognise the contribution future generations will make to the region, Bayfair Shopping Centre is inviting local schools to take part in a unique competition. From 11 to 22 October, students are encouraged to submit a piece of artwork that illustrates what Tauranga will look like 25 years from now. The artwork will be considered for inclusion in the time capsule.
The competition aims to encourage students to look to the future and imagine what their home city will look like, what technological advances will be made and how the landscape might change. Bayfair Shopping Centre Manager, Andrew Wadsworth will judge the artwork, and a winning student from a primary, intermediate and secondary school will win a $250 Bayfair Gift Card. The three schools attended by these students will each be awarded a 42” LG HD plasma television, and their entries will be inserted into the time capsule.
Winners will be announced on Wednesday 27 October, and the winning student’s classes will be invited to attend the time capsule burial ceremony at 11am on Wednesday 3 November at Bayfair Shopping Centre. Copies of the winning artwork will be on display near the centre management office for three months following the burial of the time capsule.
Schools can register their interest in entering by emailing nina.rivett@ampcapital.com. All artwork is to be produced on A4-sized paper, and each entry should detail the student’s name, age, class and school on the reverse. Artworks must be handed in to Nina Rivett at Bayfair Shopping Centre by each school’s representative by 22 October.
