Crash - SH3 Otorohanga

Diversions are in place on SH3 northeast of Otorohanga as police and emergency services deal with a fatal crash.

The head on crash occurred at 1.45pm near the intersection with Puketarata Road. From initial reports it appears that a southbound car crossed the centre line and collided with a northbound utility vehicle. A woman in the southbound vehicle is reported to have died as a result of the crash. The male driver of the northbound ute is reported to have received moderate to serious injuries and is being transported to hospital.

Diversions are in place from SH3 onto Kio Kio Station Road to the south of the scene, onto Ouruwhero and Te Kawa roads, back to SH3.

The diversion is expected to remain in place for at least another hour. It is twice the distance of the SH3 route and motorists are advised to revise their travel times and drive to the conditions on the secondary roads.
