NZ FastNet Ferns team announced

Netball New Zealand has today confirmed the 11 players that will represent New Zealand as the “ FastNet Ferns” at the World Netball Series in Liverpool from the 19 – 21 of November.



The NZ FastNet Ferns have an exciting new look to defend their World Netball Series title -- a shortened version of the game which includes rolling substitutions, six-minute quarters and two-point goals.



With the majority of the Silver Ferns players being rested after coming off a hard-fought, Gold Medal winning campaign at the Commonwealth games. Key selection events for this team include the ANZ Championships, NZU21 July Tour and Lion Foundation Netball Champs where more experienced as well as up and coming players had the opportunity to push their case for selection.



Netball New Zealand High Performance Director Tracey Fear said it was a great development opportunity for players and management team personnel to step up to the international level and to have the experience of Robyn Broughton leading the campaign will ensure they all gain the most from the opportunity.



The team will be coached and guided under Southern Steel coach and National selector Robyn Broughton and Janine Southby (NZU21 Coach) as assistant coach.



NZ FastNet Ferns coach Robyn Broughton said she was looking forward to challenge of the new competition and working with a this group of players.



“This a great opportunity to represent New Zealand in the new version of the game – FastNet and I am really delighted to have former Silver Fern Maree Bowden as the captain of our side, I know the experience she brings to the team will be invaluable. There are also a group of young players on the rise through the NNZ pathway and this will be their chance to push for higher honours. ”, said Broughton.



The NZ FastNet Ferns depart for Liverpool on Sunday 14th November.

World Netball Series Rules
· Matches will be 4 x 6 minutes with 3 x 2 minutes breaks.

· 7 players on court, 5 on the bench

· Rolling Substitutions i.e. no stoppages; unlimited number of substitutions per team per quarter. There will be a designated box at each transverse line, opposite the Official Bench where players shall wait holding up the position of the player to be substituted. Players from either team may wait in either box.

· After a goal is scored, the game restarts from the centre in favour of the team conceding.

· There will be alternative centre passes at the beginning of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarter.

· There is no whistle after a goal is scored.

· Coaches will be allowed to coach from the sideline, only in front of their bench. The area will be marked out. The third umpire will monitor.

· Each team will elect one quarter as a Power Play when any goals they score will be doubled.

· Shooters may shoot from outside of the circle, all successful goals will be worth double i.e. 2 goals. In a power play this could escalate to 4 goals.

· The umpire will signal by raising one hand for one goal and two hands for two goals.
