Wellington Police investigating a serious family violence incident yesterday need help to locate a potential witness.

Police were alerted by a member of the public around 4:40pm yesterday that a man and a woman were involved in a serious assault at a property in Raukawa Street, near Monorgan Road in Strathmore.

Detective Sergeant Mike Priston says a 42 year old woman received cuts to her neck and face and defensive cuts to her arms and hands, caused by a knife. The injuries are not life threatening and she has been treated and discharged from hospital.

A 35 year old man has been charged with attempted murder and two breaches of a protection order. He has appeared in the Wellington District Court this afternoon and has been remanded in custody to reappear on 12 November 2010.

"We believe a witness in a white van may have seen yesterday's attack and we are urging that person to come forward and help Police with our inquiries."

Detective Sergeant Priston says the van had a ladder on the roof and may have had some sign writing on the vehicle.

Anyone with any information should phone Detective Sergeant Mike Priston on (04) 381 2000 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
