BALCLUTHA

At about 5.55pm on Monday the 25th of October 2010 South Otago Emergency Services were called to a multiple vehicle accident on State Highway One about 10 minutes south of Balclutha.

Two motorbikes had been travelling north towards Balclutha. The rider of one motorbike was a 39 year old Dunedin woman. Her 39 year old husband was riding the other motorbike.

The Dunedin woman has failed to take a moderate left hand bend and hit a southbound Toyota Camry, which was towing a boat. She has died as a result of the impact.

The vehicle crash is being investigated by Balclutha Police in conjunction with the Serious Crash Analyst and vehicle inspectors. The matter has been referred to the Coroner.

At this early stage it appears as though the deceased has crossed the centre line and into the path of the southbound vehicle.

The deceased's name has not yet been released as all the next of kin have yet to be advised.
