Gisborne and Wairoa Police are investigating an incident which occurred in Wairoa

Members of the Gisborne and Wairoa Police are investigating an incident which occurred in Wairoa at approximately 03:00am this morning.

At about this time the occupants of a car were involved in an altercation outside the Wairoa Mongrel Mob headquarters which resulted in one of the occupants receiving shotgun wounds to the chest.

The injured 17 year old male whose injuries are not 'life threatening' was initially taken to the Wairoa hospital but has since been transferred to the Hawkes Bay Hospital.

The Police are currently speaking with a number of persons from both groups to establish the chain of events.

The incident was initially attended by members of the Gisborne Armed Offenders Squad.
