District commanders appointed for Waikato and Bay of Plenty Police
Commissioner of Police Howard Broad has announced the provisional appointment of District Commanders for Waikato and Bay of Plenty Police.
Detective Superintendent Win Van Der Velde has been provisionally appointed District Commander for Waikato and Inspector Glenn Dunbier has been provisionally appointed District Commander for Bay of Plenty.
Detective Superintendent Van Der Velde is currently the National Manager Crime, based at Police National Headquarters (PNHQ).
Inspector Dunbier, who is promoted to Superintendent with his appointment, is currently Area Commander for the Eastern Waikato Area.
Superintendent Van Der Velde joined Police as a cadet in 1977, and has served in general and investigative roles in Auckland, Gisborne, and Waikato.
Over the past four years, as National Manager Crime based in Police National Headquarters, he has been responsible for developing and overseeing implementation of NZ Police's criminal investigation strategy, including strategies targeting drugs and organised crime.
Supt Van Der Velde will take up his appointment over the Christmas/New Year period.
Superintendent Dunbier joined Police in 1985, in Papakura and has served in Auckland, Wellington/Lower Hutt and Waikato with experience in both general duties and criminal investigations. As Area Commander for Eastern Waikato he was responsible for policing the Waikato area from Morrinsville, south to Matamata, and including the Coromandel Peninsula south to Waihï Beach. He is currently the lead New Zealand Police liaison officer for the annual ANZAC commemorations in Turkey.
The timing of Superintendent Dunbier taking up his role is yet to be confirmed.
