This November, Kiwi motoring enthusiasts have a special opportunity to enjoy a lengthy demonstration ride with the unique Can-Am Spyder roadster.

Visiting Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, the ‘Spyder Experience’ travelling road show offers people the chance to take the unique, three-wheeled roadster on a group ride and experience the Spyder for themselves.

Made by the innovative team at Bombardier Recreational Products in Canada, the Spyder looks like a three-wheeled, Y-configuration motorcycle.

“But the Spyder doesn’t ride like a motorcycle – it’s a totally different riding sensation and is ideal for those who have always loved the open air feel of riding a bike, but prefer a more stable ride,” says Richard Shaw, BRP’s New Zealand manager.

“Any New Zealander with a regular drivers’ licence can enjoy the Spyder. All you need to do to join us for the Spyder Experience is register online for your preferred date and time in either Christchurch, Wellington or Auckland.”

Shaw says there’s nothing ordinary about the way the Spyder looks or rides.

““With its 990 cc V-Twin Rotax engine, ABS and power-steering, the Spyder is powerful and sophisticated to ride. Find out for yourself how this ground-breaking vehicle performs.”

“We’ll take everyone through the basics of riding a Spyder – they are different, but not difficult to master – and we’ll cover some of the technical details that make the Spyder so special. After our group ride around a good mix of urban and open roads, we’ll return to base to enjoy a coffee and talk about their experience with fellow enthusiasts and experts from the Can-Am team.”

Shaw adds that the Spyder is perfect for two-up riding and pillion guests are welcome to sign up and join in the Spyder Experience demo rides. These take place in Christchurch from 5 to 7 November, Wellington from 12 to 14 November and Auckland from 19 to 21 November.

“Naturally, we are thinking of all Christchruch and Canterbury residents who have been affected by the recent earthquake and subsequent aftershocks. At this stage, our event is expected to proceed, but we remain sensitive to the possibility that the situation may change and all registered participants will be kept fully informed.”

The Spyder Experience features both models of Spyder available in New Zealand: the Roadster RS and the all-new RT Tourer. The RT Tourer model features more space for luggage, an ultra-comfort touring saddle and a passenger seat backrest, an electric height-adjustable windscreen and cruise control.

“The original and still enormously-fun Spyder RS has the same 990 cc, 71 kW V-Twin engine, power steering, a vehicle stability system and comes with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed semi-automatic transmission,” explains Shaw.

The Spyder Experience also features a special hospitality truck which carries the Spyders between cities and will return to its home in Australia when the New Zealand tour is complete at the end of November.

“The demo tour is free, but spaces are limited – we have ten Spyders for each one-and-a-half hour demo. Visit www.spyderexperience.com and register today. All registered participants will be advised of the meeting point in their city before the demonstration rides take place.”
