Thousands of dollars worth of scholarships are now on offer by Credit Union North to help our most deserving local students obtain a tertiary education – and hopefully one day, the job of their dreams.

Credit Union North’s commitment to “succeeding together” means the organisation is offering a record five scholarships for 2011. Each will be worth a total of $3000 and will be split evenly over the three years of a recipients’ tertiary study.

Credit Union North Marketing Manager Jack Bills says the Bursary Awards programme has been running since 1995 but this is the first time applications will be open to non Credit Union North members.

“Previously our financial grants were restricted to members, or the children or grandchildren of members who were attending secondary school.

“But we realise that a huge number of students aspire to obtain a tertiary qualification. So this year we’re proud to offer the opportunity to all school leavers to help advance their future career prospects.”

Bursary Awards applications close on 30 November 2010, and people can download an application form from www.nzcunorth.co.nz or pick one up from any Credit Union North branch.

Approximately 58 secondary schools from Thames through to Turangi will receive information shortly on how students can apply.

Credit Union North Bursary Awards recipients can attend any tertiary education provider they choose, and the $1000 per year will be awarded subject to an annual review of their educational achievement at the end of years one and two.

The five scholarships will be announced in January and will be chosen by an independent facilitator who may interview applicants if necessary to make a final decision.

“We want to hear about people’s recreational interests and hobbies as well as their hopes for the future,” Bills says. “We do not want any students to be limited in their career aspirations by whether or not they can afford to study, so we hope this money will make a real difference in their lives.”

Bills says Credit Union North’s number one goal is to ensure that “everyone is better off with us”, and the Bursary Awards are just one way the organisation is helping support its local community.
