Farmers across the country are preening the best of their flock for the 2011 Beef + Lamb New Zealand Ltd Golden Lamb Awards (aka the Glammies).

Entries are now open for the 2011 competition and farmers are once again striving to produce the most tender and tasty lamb.

Beef + Lamb New Zealand Ltd CEO, Dr Scott Champion, says the competition, supported by Pfizer Animal Genetics, is a chance to highlight the paddock to plate story.

“The Glammies gives farmers a chance to showcase breed lines and demonstrate how their animal management talent and hard work in the field culminates in great tasting lamb for the public,” says Champion.

Entries will go through rigorous testing at Carne Technologies to find the top 20 entries.
From tenderometer testing, to yield, colour and succulence analysis, the finalists will have to overcome tough competition.

The final 20 will face off in a taste-test in Wanaka at the Upper Clutha A & P Show on March 11, 2011.

The competition is supported by processing plants across the country, including Alliance Group Ltd, Ashburton Meat Processors Ltd, Auckland Meat Processors/Wilson Hellaby, Blue Sky Meats, Cabernet Foods, Harris Meats, Land Meat New Zealand, Silver Fern Farms Ltd and Taylor Preston/Ken Wilson Meats.
