Goodbye to Sarah the Lemur

A popular inhabitant at Brooklands Zoo has been put down today after a short illness.

 

Sarah, one of two ring-tailed lemurs, has been unwell for about a week.

“She has been under veterinary care but her health continued to decline,” says Curator Pukekura Park Chris Connolly.

“She had become so unwell that today the vet recommended she be put down.”

Manera is now the sole lemur at Brooklands Zoo.

“Lemurs are social animals so we won’t let Manera be alone for long,” says Mr Connolly.

“We’ll be speaking with the Zoo and Aquarium Association about whether to bring in more lemurs to Brooklands or whether we should transfer Manera to a zoo where she can join another lemur troop.”
