National Jandal Day helps support a Century of Surf Life Saving

Jandals will be the order of the day on Friday 3rd December as Kiwis all over New Zealand are urged to wear their jandals in support of National Jandal Day – Surf Life Saving’s fourth annual appeal day.

“National Jandal Day plays a very important role for Surf Life Saving - we rely heavily on the generosity of public donations and our sponsors to help make our beaches safer. Surf Lifeguards made over 1420 rescues last summer and put in over 198,000 volunteer hours – that kind of commitment is appreciated by the public of New Zealand and National Jandal Day gives Kiwis a chance to show their appreciation for the essential service we provide,” said Grant Florence, Chief Executive Surf Life Saving New Zealand.

“This summer is especially significant as we celebrate 100 years of service.  Over that time Surf Lifeguards have saved more than 50,000 lives on our nation’s beaches – and during the summer of 2010/11 we will pay tribute to the legacy and dedication of Surf Lifeguards who have served New Zealand for 100 years.”  he continued.

In the past Kiwi’s have been very generous and donated over $350,000 last year – we’re hoping in our Centenary year, that the New Zealand public will get right behind National Jandal Day and give generously to support us going into the next one hundred years.” said Florence.

·         Shop at an Noel Leeming store on Friday 3rd December and a percentage of your purchase will support Surf Life Saving.

Collectors will be out in force on Friday 3rd December, so please spare a gold coin or one of New Zealand’s most respected charities. By wearing jandals and making a donation you are helping Surf Life Saving save lives.
