Police are calling for witnesses to an assault which occurred on Tuesday 9 November 2010.

A 21 year old male victim had spent the day at the races with friends before going to Aikmans bar in Merivale.  He left the bar around 9.15pm and was walking north on the Weston side of Papanui Road near Heaton street when he was approached by two males walking in the opposite direction.  It appears some sort of verbal altercation has taken place between the victim and the two males before one of the males punched the victim in the face.  The victim fell back hitting his head on the ground. He remained there unconscious while the offender and his associate ran from the scene.  The two were last seen running East on Weston Road.

The witness has received a gash to his head from the fall, which required stitches, and cuts to his lips.  He has spent the last two days in hospital and is likely to be discharged today.

The offender is described as Caucasian of medium build around 6 foot in height, wearing dark trousers and a white or light coloured shirt.  His associate was male Caucasian with black or dark hair short hair, medium to solid build, wearing a dark plain business suit, white shirt.

The victim was wearing a dark blue pin stripped suite, white shirt with blue stripes, a light blue and dark blue stripped tie.
