Fatal crash at Poolburn

Alexandra police have released the name of the Irish national involved in a fatal crash at Poolburn in Central Otago this morning.

The driver who died is Leslie ARMITAGE (male) aged 23 years from Tipperary Ireland who was in New Zealand working as a farmhand in the Ida Valley.

The passenger in the vehicle is a 21 year old also from Ireland who is employed with Mr ARMITAGE in the Ida valley. His name will not be released as family overseas are still being informed.

Police have completed an examination of the scene and inquiries into the crash are continuing. Alcohol was involved and from our initial inquiries it appears neither man was wearing a seat belt.
