WELLINGTON CITY

The Great Harbour Way - Te Aranui o Poneke - is to be launched this Sunday 21 November with a ride from 'Welly to Shelly', led by Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown.

All keen cyclists are welcome to join the ride, starting at Queens Wharf at 10.00am, whatever the weather.

And with a free bicycle bell to be presented to every participant, the event is likely to provide a ringing endorsement of the Great Harbour Way concept.

Mayor Wade-Brown says it'll be a leisurely event that aims to promote the vision of the Great Harbour Way - a safe walkway and cycleway around Wellington Harbour and the South Coast, eventually from Pencarrow to Pariwhero/Red Rocks.

Participants can choose to ride on to Seatoun and return by ferry, make arrangements to be met at Shelly Bay or ride back to Queens Wharf.

The Great Harbour Way is promoted by a coalition including local Rotary Clubs, Living Streets Aotearoa, and Cycle Aware Wellington among others.

Come and support safety improvements to walking and cycling paths. All participants will be presented with a bell for their bicycle - so ring out your free bell to support the message that pedestrians and cyclists can share space comfortably around our beautiful harbour.
